The “Dauphin Pool” (Pool) has been a landmark of the Dauphin-Middle Paxton Township community since 1964. The Dauphin Recreation Association (Board) was formed in 1965 by members of the Dauphin/Middle Paxton Lions Club for the “purpose of constructing, maintaining and operating a community park, playground and swimming pool.” The Board has owned the swimming pool, parking lot, three (3) tennis courts, basketball courts and surrounding areas comprising a total of approximately six (6.6) acres for nearly 50 years. The property is located within the Borough of Dauphin but adjoins the ball field properties owned and operated by the Dauphin-Middle Paxton Joint Park Authority.
The “Pool” has provided many families from both the Borough of Dauphin and Middle Paxton Township with a healthy and wholesome recreational facility. The Pool has been used by The American Red Cross’ “Learn to Swim”, “Water Safety”, and “Life Saving” programs at no cost; and is used by children on the Dauphin Swim Team for swim practice and meets, and numerous other “community” organizations for various events. The tennis courts and basketball courts are available to pool members and guests throughout the year.
Over the last fifty (50) years, the Board has funded the original construction, operation, maintenance and any improvements of the Pool and tennis courts, solely from the modest membership fees and fundraising efforts. In addition, the daily operations have been sustained to a great extent by a small group of dedicated individual volunteers.
As with any facility, infrastructures deteriorate and major upgrades are now needed.
The Pool is currently financially sound. The Pool provides summer employment for 15-20 students and adults each season and over 600 people used the facility last season. Many visitors from other communities have remarked on the beauty of the pool and its location. However, the 50 year old pool is in need of major repairs. The Board is attempting to look ahead to the future of the property as a recreational facility for future generations in line with the Dauphin-Middle Paxton Township Joint Recreation Comprehensive Plan.
The Board is attempting to look to the future of the Dauphin Community Pool but needs some serious help.
WE HAVE REDUCED MEMBERSHIP FEES THIS ONE TIME:
$199.00/family, $99.00/individual in celebration of this season and to thank all who have joined in the past; many have always joined just to show support of the Pool. We ask that you continue to do so. Invite friends and family. Let us make this year a year of celebration, recalling fond memories of years past and looking forward to whatever the future brings.
WAIVING THE “INITIATION” FEE.
LOOKING FOR COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS to help the Board this season. Those volunteers would help with the operations of the pool, working the concession stand, mowing grass and other items as may be required.

There will be a public meeting to answer any questions: April 9, 2015, 7:00 p.m., Middle Paxton Township Building on Peters Mountain Road.
